Andy,

Your hands should be around you waist at contact. Low pitch you talking about, your bat head will reach anything in the strike zone in or out.
What I think your having problems with is something have have seen with my son. He seams to want to take his hands to the low pitch. When he does that he never rotates correctly or is off ballance. You have to let the bat head do the work.
