Lead foot plant

Posted by: Steven V (steven@ars-inc.com) on Sun Aug 20 15:47:45 2006

I wanted to get folks opinion on the lead stride foot position. I have taught my team rotational hitting mechanics that seem to work very well. Recently our team hired a professinal hitting instructor who is well regarded in his rotational hitting instruction to come to our practices to help with the kids.

He picked up on a few of the kids that when their lead stride foot plants, the foot at stride plant is facing the pitcher and then the full rotational mechanics begins. He indicated that the stride plant foot should land at 45 degrees or pointing to the second baseman (for a right hand hitter) and then rotate in sync with the rest of the bodies rotation.

My question is if there is a significant difference in where the stride foot is pointed at initial plant? Everyone's comments are very much appreciated.
