Re: dont force lower half

Posted by: Andy () on Fri Sep 1 08:12:56 2006

I would not qualify this as good advice. Most athletic motions, especially those involving rotation, start with the lower half, or even the middle of the body, and finish with the upper body. Throwing a shot put, executing a clean and jerk, swinging a golf club, taking a slapshot in Hockey, thorowing a baseball, etc...all involve the lower body or middle creating the initial motion. I am definitely no expert on this subject, but this is the "kinetic link", which describes the idea of the larger muscle groups (hips or core) starting the motion, and sequentially working the way to the smaller, quicker muscles (arms and hands) to finish the motion.

Very few good hitter lead with their upper body and let their lower body follow.

> Am I correct by saying that you should not force your lower half of your body into your swing? By this, I mean that you shouldnt concentrate on really turning your hips and trying to really get alot of force out of your hips. Should you just use your upper half and the bottom should follow?
