As a basic rule, look for the pitches YOU can handle up to two strikes. With two strikes concentrate on putting a good swing on the ball while putting it in play in an effort to help your team.

If the pitcher gets behind 3-1, 2-0, or if you are in need of the homerun or sacrifice fly, zone in and look for a particular pitch.

With regard to your first at bat in a game, do not swing at a pitch you have not seen (unless you have batted against the pitcher before and have a read on him). An exception applies if you get a pitch you know you can handle or if you have two strikes.
