9/19/01 --- jack.....i think my question below got lost with the subsequent nonsense....i'll pose the question again......................people talk about weight distribution ar launch position (50-50) but what might be an ideal % AT CONTACT?......for example, a-rod, with back toe barely touching ground and body nearly errect, looks like maybe 95 % of weight is on front side.....and maybe a hitter who has more backward lean might be @ 75 percent......reggie jackson always looked as if he was more like 50-50 AT CONTACT.......has this issue ever been studied and for that matter, how much relevance might it have?......respectfully, grc....... <<<

Hi grc

I think your assessment is correct. I could find no correlation between % of weight on the back-foot and batting performance. Weight on the front-foot is more a function of stride length than type of transfer mechanics used by the batter. Bonds has little or no stride and has a good percentage of his weight on the back-foot at contact while Aaron's axis is more straight up and has most of his weight on the front foot. --- Is one more correct than the other - who can say. --- The important observations to note while studying their mechanics is that some things in their swings remain constant. - they both have a circular hand-path and both apply tht and bht.
