Hi Jack,

So what your saying is that "rotation" is the casue of arcing and not the hands generating forces.

If one physically tried to apply a force rearward the wrists would uncock early.

From what you have written the don't uncok so there is no force other then rotation working on them. That is the only way the wrists will remain cocked.

How you explain THT goes against what you have written. If THT was applied then the wrists would uncock early. To my knowledge your explanation of THT is done with the hand, pulling back with the fingers. Anything done with the hand will disrupt the sequence.

Rotation will bring the bat around without applying THT or a rearward force. And as I mentioned any attempt to apply a rearward force would uncock the wrist prematurely.

Once again, there is no uncocking of the wrist involved as THT is being applied. To apply torque, the rearward force is perpendicular to the bat’s length. Therefore the wrist remains perpendicular (straight) to the bat as it rotates. – As I described earlier, the forearm rotates is sync with the bat’s rotation – this allows the wrist to remain straight as THT is applied.

Shawn, the bat-head rotates rearward from its launch position back to the lag position. Common sense tells me that for the top-hand to aid in that rearward acceleration, it must be applying a rearward force. However, according to you, the top-hand is not applying a rearward force (pulling rearward with the fingers). Therefore, according to you, the top-hand is either going along for the ride, or, it is driving forward. Neither is true in a high level swing.

Rotation along does induce a rearward acceleration of the bat-head. However, the rearward acceleration of the bat from rotation alone is limited. To attain maximum acceleration, the best hitters apply THT as I demonstrate in this clip -- http://www.batspeed.com/media/THTHigh.wmv
