Very few kids can just pick up a big barrel bat and not loose some bat speed when going from the small 2 1/4 bat.

This is something that has to be used and practice with. Like a new glove. You have to oil it and break it in. The body has to do the same. The only way a kid will ever be able to swing bats like that is to just do it. Each swing they get stronger hands/etc. If you really practice with the bat you will see that they didnt drop there batspeed that much.
