The 3rd Engine?

The 3rd Engine?

I have always wondered if this is a real or imagined power source in the swing. To me, Cal Ripken best exemplified it during his swing, but I don’t have any clips of him or the know how to post them if I did.

I utilize this when I really have to step on the fly balls I hit to my outfielders. Especially when I have to use our wood fungo. I hit right-handed and in so doing, I make a conscious effort to unload my upper right back and back shoulder just before contact. I can definitely hit it farther this way but there is a lot more head jarring.

Have any of you ever studied this move or is it just a figment of my imagination?
