Rethinking Old Theories

Hi Jack,

I recognize you fervently support the notion that weight shift and rotation cannot transpire simultaneously. However, one observation makes me hesitant to accept that conclusion.

Jack, take a baseball, and throw it as hard as you possibly can. Notice the backward spin (rotation) and distance (translation) that the ball travels. Just as important, notice that both factors--spin and forward propulsion--occur at once.

This is my basic reasoning for questioning--but not necessarily rejecting--your argument that it is impossible for translation and rotation to take place at the same time.

Best Wishes,
BHL
