The whole swing up discussion is over with. We all know that the barrel is traveling slightly
upward just before contact. The difference is the direction that the swing is launched.
Bonds launched his swing downward and this is why he thought his path was downward as
well. He continued to launch his swing downward even after it was revieled to him that
the barrel was traveling upward at contact. If Bonds tried to launch his swing upward, his
path would be way under the plane of the pitch, along with less batspeed.

Linear means through, not down. However the swing should be launched at a downward
angle.
