Re: Reaching full extension

This is about the only part of the swing that I am not understanding. I take it that the lead arm "drags" behind and follows the hips while you get lots of wrist action from the THT and CHP and that you get some more batspeed from the explosion of the hips? Maybe I have just always thought that extension meant extending the arm out to meet the ball out front and that I really should be thinking about it in another way?

Actually the front arm is not usually locked unless for the most part you are using a premature top hand release. What some Bonds clips when you have the opportunity. Most often neither is his front leg or top hand locked.

Extension is the process that begins at the point of contact. Note that the extension forces are already in motion before contact. If not the swing would be canceled out to a degree. A person who exhibits good extension mechanics will get occasional check swing basehits because of the upswing mechanics.
