"The thing I wish people would stress is this: a weight transfer should not be focused on a rotation...But the old theory (well little league coach theory) of "squish the bug" is wat too many hitters do....and it is the lazy way of tranfering weight. As most of us know, if you do this, your upper body is almost sure to follow (unless you fight it and "push at the baseball;" often resulting in a weak bat head in the deeper zones anyways.....but if your upper body rotates, we all know you won't stay on the ball line for very long."

I think there is a role for weight transfer, but its role is to facilitate the rotation of the hips, shoulders, and bat.

If you look at clips of great hitters, you will see weight transfer up to the point that the front heel plants. After that, the weight transfer stops and the rotation of the hips starts.
