Bat Speed -- Baseball Hitting Forum

My son is having a difficult time catching-up with pitches. He is swinging late at everything.

If rotational mechanics are good,hands should stay back/torso should not launch until there has been separation and front heel has dropped.Make sure for a given pitcher/situation the heel drops in time.Make sure once the heel has dropped that the hitter doesn't get nervous and rush(keep smooth tempo/sequence).Rushing/loss of tempo will mess up timing(usually make it late) and power/batspeed suffers.
