Re: Bat Stings The Hands

While pitching to one of the 8 yr olds, who has a good swing and always connects with the ball, the bat occasionally really stings his hands. I can't recognize what is wrong, and I am afraid he now afraid of it and not as agressive. What causes this?

hitting the ball off-center: end of the bat or from the label on down. "bees in the bat" happen to everyone at times. And little kids especially get gun-shy from it. Better quality bats have stuff built in to reduce this but the real remedy is to hit it on the sweetspot.
Maybe go to tennis balls as a warm up so he's not afraid to swing, then wean him back to real baseballs.??
