Hi Teacherman,

I understand that you spurn comments through numbered etymons to reflect a low-profile personality. I respect that. However, since you responded, I must issue you the following query: what are you adding to the thread? Are you siding with 1) a pure linear motion, 2) a pure rotation moment, 3) or a hybrid? Also, do you, as I do, hold an opinion prior to posting, or are you just navagating through information to find the answer that makes the most sense? It should be duly noted that I am not trying not start an argument; rather, I am trying to situate everyone in a debate.

Also, I have a question you might want to consider: when someone does a layout somersault, they translate (jump) and rotate (go backwards) at the same time. While it is true that the former precedes the latter, linear velocity does not reach zero before rotation begins. Also, oftentimes the performer will land in a place in back of where they initiated the movement, meaning that the velocity need not "zero out" either! This is yet another instance of horizantal and vertical movements that occasion linear propulsion and gyration.

Best Wishes to Jack, Brian, and Teacherman,
BHL
