Strike zone

My 12 yr old plays rec and has a good eye for a pitch, therefore he is selective on his swings, this can put him in a hole fast. I have actually heard a head coach and ump discuss pre game and say "chalk to chalk"." What the.....?" this is an additional 4" on each side not to mention additional total area % increase. If rough math is correct this is large. This is using 2 ft.as hgt.At this level if you are trying to groom pitchers over hitters all you umps who ascribe to this need to rethink. Looks to me I need to volunteer as plate.ump or get my boy a longer bat.
