Re: Mac and ARod- Bad Students?

Posted by: The Hitman (ahsnumber3@aol.com) on Sat Jun 1 14:53:48 2002

Last month in one of his posts "Mr. Lau" suggested that two of his students are/were the above mentioned stars. In the post he talked about one of the "essentials", striding with the front foot as closed as possible. I may not have seen representative clips of these guys, but it sure seems as if their front feet land at the 45 degree angle, like all the other rotational greats. Looks like they need/needed more work with their "teacher" in order to correct this mistake. Or is he just talking about having the foot closed while in the air for some and THEN landing at 45? (But what sense does that make?)
> As an aside, how old is "Mr. Lau"? From his posts I'm guessing 15 or 16.

Hey Chip
Well I don't think its been the actual Mr. Lau posting on this website lately. Its most likely been Joe A or someone else. But I read His fathers book "The Art of Hitting 300" and it says land as closed as possible, he says something like if you open your hips too much it drains your power. He says you open your front foot naturally so you should focus on landing closed just to prevent you from opening too much. This really didnt make too much sense to me its a sort of indecisive opinion, but I like the cue of landing at 45 degrees. Because if your heel lands closed you drain the power out of your hips. As Jack says its not a problem if you land closed on the ball of your foot and then drop the heel open as your start the swing.
