Re: pitching machine/which bat?

Posted by: Major Dan (markj89@charter.net) on Wed Jun 12 09:04:55 2002

My son is in his 1st year pitching machine. How do I know the right bat weight and length? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Look at this webpage:
http://www.cybball.org/bats.htm

It is approximate but a good starting point. I searched on Google using 'bat length chart' and got this and several others. The web is a great thing.

Then go to a sporting goods store and have your son swing bats in that length and weight plus some an inch longer and shorter, and some weight variations as well. He'll figure out what feels 'just right'.
Too heavy is obvious. Too long can be just as problematic though not as obvious at first.
