Rotational hitting for

Posted by: Len (i_lander@hotmail.com) on Tue Jun 18 15:46:28 2002

I am 62 years old and have just started slow-pitch. I played baseball as a youngster and don't recall the exact method (if any) of hitting I was taught. If you could hit the ball with any success at that time, that was good enough and I guess I did. I was a line-drive and singles hitter then, as well as later in fastball at the intra-mural level in university.
My problem now is inconsistency... I still can produce line drives occasionally but mostly am hitting off the handle weakly to third or short. So I tried to re-learn the swing by visiting various sites on the net so I could develop a consistant swing to produce the line drives of yesteryear. Even thogh I am still faily coordinated and athletic, as a 62 year old I am not sure I can produce enough torque between torso and shoulders to get the power I need to generate those "screaming" line drives (lol). I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts about linear vs. rotational hitting appraoch being better (easier)for my age group.
