The simple fact is, there is a trade off between power hitting (more strike outs) and high average hitting (fewer strike outs). Of course, beware of those who will try to tell you that with this system or that system you can have your cake and eat it too, because with just a few rare exceptions, there is a trade-off.

Seriously speaking, Schmidt was a good defensive player his hitting prowess is built around consistently playing enough years and having decent power numbers. There are many who have done just as well or better, some due to injury you will never remember.
