Hitters cannot focus on two things at once. If he is preoccupied with possibly getting hit, there is no focus on where he wants the ball over the plate to hit.

Have him learn to visualize the pitch traveling to his zone out over the plate and be ready to hit it on every pitch. If his focus is on his "plan" at the plate, it should not be on getting hit.
