Bat Speed Report - 14 year old 38 year old

Posted by: Matt Kistner (mgkistner@earthlink.net) on Fri Nov 15 15:53:14 2002

I have a Swing Mate and was using it to measure my son's batspeed. I planned to demonstrate physics (Kinetic Energy = 1/2*m*v*v). I expected to show that a lighter bat was better. But, I was surprised that he could swing the 28 oz bat almost as fast as the 21.5-oz. He was averaging 64 mph with a 21.5 oz and 60 mph with the 28 oz. It showed me that maybe I had been putting too much emphasis on light-weight bats.

He only weighs 96 pounds. I am curious of other people's results. By the way--I can get to 84 mph with he 21.5 oz and 77 with the 28 oz.

Anyone know the typical professional player's swing speed?? From David Eckstein to Barry Bonds........

The Swing Mate is a good tool.
