Re: Hitting with power

>>> My son is on an 11U All Star team and is a good batter, high BA and OB%. He rarely strikes out and will either put the ball in play or get a walk. The problem is he doesn't seem to be able to really drive the ball. He usually hits grounders that find a hole or a blooper right over the infielders heads. Is this flat bat? Any suggestions on how to get him hitting with power. <<<

Hi Ken

Hitting with power is mainly governed by the bat speed generated. Without seeing your son's swing, I can't comment on his mechanics. However, I have found that once a parent understands the forces acting on the bat that induces its angular acceleration, he can better understand the mechanics that most efficiently supply these forces. Read the information in the link below -- You may turn out to be the best coach he will ever have.

Mechanics That Generate Bat Speed

Also, read the discussion below with Chris. It may relate to your son's problem as well.
