I am not sure but I would assume that the lats would be involved too. I would think that the lead side pulling would be mostly done by the powerful lats in your back. Rear deltoids, abdominal muscles (specifically obliques) and the hip rotators.

This brings me to another question for Jack. Should you feel a stretch in the lead side?? This would indicate to me that you had a good separation between shoulders and hips. I think one of my problems is separation. I think I load my hips back along with my shoulders which cause my hips to open late and it doesn't produce the same rubber band effect. So should I be feeling a stretch through the front side?? When I do this without a bat I concentrate on keeping my hips neutral as I bring back my shoulders and I feel a good stretch all through the lead side. Very interesting stuff.
