bottom pull/ top push??

If I hold the bat in my hands straight up and down and apply torque in opposite direction to get the bat head going toward the ball(Just as jack shows us on the video). Don't I have to Push the top hand forward?
I can't grab the pull the top hand back concept?
If I did this it seems as if the bat head lags behind to long.

Any help? And is this easier to see on the new DVD?
