Re: Could bat length make a difference?

> Just a quick question for the gurus. I'm in my early 30's, 6'2"/195 lbs. and play in a men's adult league. During my adult years I thought it was obvious to use a 34/31 bat. The other day, I decided to use an old 32.5/29.5 bat for bp and felt that I was hitting everything right on the "sweet spot".

The right bat for you is the bat that maximizes the talents you bring to the table. Ex. A friend of mine is 6 ft three 190-200 lbs and uses a 33 inch bat. I am significantly shorter and use a 34 inch bat. And I actually feel that since I am shorter I need a longer bat to make up the difference in plate coverage as he has a much longer reach. But it depends on the hitter. I now uses a 34.5 inch bat though I choke if needed.

Back in the day it was not as easy to find bats with significant drops (-3,-4,-5) especially with regard to wood bats. Now hitters have many more options, so you should definitely experiment on getting the right feel with regard to the sweet spot.

Six foot 5 , Frank Thomas uses a 33 inch bat.
