 Jack, I believe that straightening of the front arm to contact only results in slack if you do it too early (while the hands are still behind the rotational axis).  I believe that straightening of the front arm should be used as a tool to carry out precision adjustments on a swing-by-swing basis depending upon timing, movement, and location.  Josh Hamilton and Miguel Cabrera I believe are two guys that you will see straighten out their lead arms to contact.
