Struggling at the plate...

Posted by: Joe () on Mon May 12 15:54:20 2003

Right now im struggling at the plate. When we're doing soft toss im smacking the ball hard. However, once we have BP, im lost. In my opinion, the pitcher is throwing high and outside. Not in my zone, so i dont go for it. But then the whole team is jumping on me because they want their chance to hit.

So then being pressured, i sometimes just swing at any incoming pitch. Now im in a mess. I take the strikes and swing at the balls. Almost all the contact i make, the ball ends up going the opposite field or opposite field pop-up foul.

The coach has suggested that i get a shorter stride and must keep my back leg still. When im doing dry swings at home, im perfectly still. But having to hit those outside balls, my backleg tends not to turn fully but only maybe like half way.... What am i doing wrong now?
