Long strides tend to force movement of the head and other body parts to get ahead of each other (i.e. hips flying out too quickly, foot not getting down before you start the hands). A good thing to do would be to start your stance with your front foot out where you would normally step to. Then, just simply pick your front foot up and put it right back down in the same place you started from.

I tend to stride too far and get spread out real far. I am not out on my front foot but is this a bad thing? Can I get more power another way?
