grc- Good points.I would consider Griffey and Arod,etc to still be rotational even though the "L" can come out quite a bit.They must still be staying "connected" by shortening the swing radius/hooking the handpath/shaping the handpath with the bottom hand/lead arm/front shoulder or else they would decelerate and increase timing error.

The bat cocking is very important to create stretch,create connection and line up the turning bat and the momentum plane of the torso.

Bagwell is an interesting example of how you have to make the body work when you don't generate a lot of weight shift/linear momentum/forward movement of center of gravity to assist.
