It is very common and in my mind a good way to do it. It puts the foot in a good position to provide resistance (leverage)and help insure the hitter stays closed until it is time to open up. Not to say what you propose and what Eptein teaches is wrong. My point is it falls into the area of personal preference, as opposed to being an absolute. That is why I don't have a problem with Jack's cues in this area or Epstein's for that matter.

As an aside, I believe there are some problems with Epsteins upper body theories. I say this only because the student clips he displays on the site and in his video do not quite look right to me. I think it has a lot to do with the radical fence drill he teaches. Now the torque drill: I really like it and use it all the time.
