Re: Re: big barrel aluminum bats for tourney play

I would like to hear from anyone re: the long-term side effects of using fat aluminum bats for tourney play. We have a team of 9 yr. olds, and I am wondering if using this type of bat is really beneficial to the kid. I would hate to see a swing get sloppy because of this heavier bat, or have a kid dependent on technology and not mechanics.

Thanks for the tip. Another tip I have heard about is the use of an under-inflated basketball. A simple soft toss, and the young hitter tries to drive the basketball. I believe it causes the back elbow to move to the hip, since extended arms will not get the job done.

Any thoughts on that drill?
