David Leadbetter is considered to be one of the greatest golf teachers in the world to date. He has taught the likes of Tiger Woods, Nick Price, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman and Ernie Els.

David Leadbetter hasn't won any PGA tournaments that I know of. You don't NECESSARILY have to have played the game in order to be a good teacher. There are tons more examples in golf, tennis and baseball where you don't have to have played the game to be a good teacher.
