Actually the swings should be similar. It is just that it has taken generations to dissect what actually occurs in the desired swings. The key part of the swing lies in the launch position (see teaching of the mechanics of the major league swing II. The question lies in how we are going to get to the launch position. A player's strength, ability and role on his team contribute to which style is desired. If a player cannot reach the stands, it may not be in his or his team's best interest for him to hit the ball in the air if he has a lot of speed.
