You certainly get my mind going giddy up here Jack :)
Ok,I'm going to be as clear and concise as I can...for my own sake..haha.
First off, it's a fact, that a good hitter can accomplish everything they have to in the rotational swing, with the no stride.I think it comes down to what's most comfortable. I mean, if they both accomplish the same, then why chose one over the other? Again, personal preferance is the answer. So, I believe it go's without saying, that a foward stride is not mandatory to produce power?
What kept running through my mind as I was watching the Bonds clip and, the site that I posted yesterday of Ted and the gang from back in the day, was Charlie Lau!! I read his book as well and, please tell me if you think I'm off target here Jack but, EXLUDING his hands approach and, knocking knuckle stuff, he really was quite accurate in his assesment and, observation, of weight shift. It does go forward.
And, it also gets blocked by the stiffening and straightening of the front leg. Also, what ran through my mind during the bonds tape and, I'm hoping you have some footage you can share BUT, it never dawned on me to look for a swing that didn't include the ball being hit. Another words, a srike out, but one that shows good mechanics. I mean I think we've all seen great hitters get a good heater thrown by them. My point,is that, don't you think that there's no other choice in that scenario, for the batter to sit much more on his back leg?!!
You mentioned in the clip if someone were to pick up their back, they'd fall backward. When their weight comes forward to such a dgree that you emphasized, their bat is their back leg for that split second. But, after contact is made and, that force now dissapated, the body has no other choice but to use the back leg for SOME support?
I hope I was at least relatively close in making my points?

Always a pleasure Jack.
