Ok, first of all Adrian Beltre has a linear type swing. Linear mechanics are not "awful" looking at all. In fact, Linear mechanics are much easier to perfect. There are some great hitters that hit home runs that use rotational, but then again there are different types of hitters such as most line drive hitters are linear. It just depends on your fit because not everyone is going to be able to use rotational and hit the ball 400 ft. Most people, especially at high school levels, arent strong enough to try to hit home runs, so they use linear and hit line drives for a higher avg.

It just depends on your style of hitting.
