thanks for the science lesson.

it comes down to what you think is good hitting...homeruns or gap to gap line drives...i'll take the latter.

show me where a guy like Giambi gets perpendicular to the flight of the ball...when i look at his swing i see a concerted effort to stay inside, to stay to and threw the ball...nobody is purely linier and nobody is circular, the two extremes...there are degree's of ellipse, your better hitters have a tighter ellipse, your longer swingers at times, your homerun hitters (Bonds aside) tend to have a more rounded (longer) path to the ball...if your just talking about generating as much bat speed as possible why not take a small crow hop in the batters box...why not employ a discus throwers rotation...?
