He has practiced with a kid pitch team and hits very well, and is a decent fielder (has lots of room for improvement). Looking for advice as to whether its a good idea to move him up into the kid pitch level (9-11 yr olds) or let him stay with his age group in a final yr of coach pitch. He is a very big 7 yr old and will be 8 in October.

Jeff,

What I would suggest is find a travel team in your area for your son's age. You will find that the skill level would be more to his liking and he would have more fun then in Rec. Not to say Rec is not fun.
Just that with a travel team you tend to have the cream of the crop and you play against the same. I know here in NC once you have seen the travel leagues like AAU or USSSA. It is hard to go back. My son went back to Rec one season. He played up and did well. But he wasnt happy. Normal plays his 9u team would have made didnt happen. He never wants to play in Rec.

Mike
