Isn't that a classic example of hitting against a firm front leg?, trying to throw the backside, etc.

One of this days, I'll find a clip I like to compare Edmond's, pre throwing the backside, and learning to spin off the backside as he put it. (+20 hrs, and much quicker).

Not that everyone should copy Mac, but look at the difference between the hip and knee position as they start to rotate, or start their approach. Almost looks like the amateur is in the a click back position, butt over the heel.
