You're on the right track. These are great cues to look for in the swing, but the hips (the back hip causes it). The muscles of the back hip (buttock section) rotates around to rotate the thigh, and, meanwhile, you're keeping the leg cemented into the ground. Reactionary forces will then cause it to pivot.
