Hi All,

I believe that what some folks may call linear others may call rotational and visa versa. If we all had a common visual reference to base a discussion from I believe that the discussion would be better for all. I may be the only one that feels this way but I'm willing to provide (or try to provide) the visual reference to base this discussion on. Hopefully Jack doesn't mind this attempt of mine.

To see a picture of A. Rod hitting paste this URL in your browser http://www.geocities.com/texas_softball/Baseball/Alex-side-view.gif

Once the image gets downloaded on your internet browser you will need to save this clip (gif) to your C drive by right clicking on it and select "save image as" to whatever directory you decide.

If you want to see a frame by frame (reverse or forward) analysis (for free) then follow the instructions below.

Here's the location. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Just answer a few questions, you don't have to buy anything. Then hit download. You will download the basic version for free. Then install the program. Once you install, you can open the program. Then click on 'FILE' menu, open the video file you saved (from whatever location you saved it to) and there you have it. When the screen opens, the movie can be played. Then pause the movie. Then in the lower right hand corner of the screen, click on the little button that has the four little dots on it. This will drop down some buttons just like your VCR. Go for it.

As far as A. Person's question concerning "WHY DOES HE GET PAID THAT MUCH??!?!!"

My answer would be that the Rangers are crazy enough to pay him that much.

hey all...
> i've watched Alex Rodriguez's swing in slow motion from three angles - from the pitcher's mound, from the backstop and from the first base side. It seems that the highest payed athlete in the world actually uses "linear mechanics."

> A-rod DOES NOT rotate around a stationary axis... his axis actually moves FORWARD! His hands extend as in linear mechanics w/o top hand torque initiating the swing, lthough he does use torque just before contact (shoulders in opposite directions. He is LINEAR....

> Jack, what are your thoughts on this?... How does he generate the power and batspeed that he does w/ linear mechanics? Would he be better w/ rotational, and WHY DOES HE GET PAID THAT MUCH??!?!!
