What causes a swing plane problem

Posted by: THG () on Wed Nov 5 19:06:18 2008

Board. Just my opinion, but I believe swing plane problems are for the most part timing problems. These timing problems are IMO the result of improper thinking at the plate. Ex. The Colorodo Rocky players were outmatched by pitches that were right over the plate. A-Rod ineffective swing plane in Jack's clip was likely the result of trying to hard for which he swung too early as he lunged for a pitch that was above his swing plane. The bottom line is that the hitter has to have confidence that he can finish his swing on time. That will allow him to trust his hands through the hitting zone. His though should be that he is going to hit the ball through the box rather than trying to reach in order to pull the ball or hit to the opposite field. That process helps good hitters get hits when they are jammed.
