That fear will always be there is some form. As he gets older or in real game situations where his team is counting on him he will decide one day that hitting the ball is more important than the ball hitting him.

This gets much better by JV ball and by junior in HS if he is still in the game he will be all about hitting the ball.

I would stop the stupid drills ( sorry) . He must keep his shoulders loaded as he strides to hit. Do not let him line up feet closed as that makes him step in the bucket more.

Learning to coil the hips and turn the shoulders back slightly will make it harder to break the setup apart as the ball is released.

Teaching the proper arm / shoulder loading pattern to create Pre-launch torque and THT will have him getting in the habit of preparing to hit the ball as the pitcher breaks over. Static setups make the effects of ball fear worse on the mechanics.
