I had a kid that began the 1-2-3 method and stoped his rear leg extension/ rear elbow extension swing with practice. He developing a strong swing to the extreme pull side.

The next year with little available time we changed his upper body set up to a more pronated top hand and a more vertically cocked bat in the set up. The naturally segmented him adding more shoulder resistance in the plane change ( barrel loading) to foot plant. It changed his direction from strong pull field preference to gap to gap. He hit 11 HR in 73 at bats many to dead CF and a few to RC and one to RF. He signed JUCO

He is still weak in the weight shift area and it is hard to put back it a swing if taken completly out for a long time. It is hard to advance to the highest swing pattern without incorporating weight shift in some form

So it is possible to transition from linear to learning to rotate to adding upper body resistance to enhance segmentation and the direction of power
