Hi Mike

Yes loading with the body instead of the hands will cause you to sit back too far.

Think more about your initial motion of your back foot being started by taking your back knee straight to the pitcher without rotation. As your knee gets to the middle of your body (which will cause your back foot to turn in (on your instep) and show the bottom of your foot to the catcher. Now rotate your knee/hips open and allow your foot to come up to the toe.

Try this drill. Put your back foot on a 4 inch step and set up into your normal stance. Now take a swing and try to get of the step with your back foot before you hit the ball. Make sure that as your foot comes off the step try to rotate your hips as fsat as you can.
