> I think your more in agreement with the late Charlie Lau style of hitting then you are with Ted Williams ideas of hitting. Because you and Chalie Lau both said pull the knob to the ball. Mankin is more in line with Ted Williams thoughts on hitting .Williams said swing slightly up let the hips lead the hands he also said he had a greater arc in his swing then Ty Cobb did. Williams said I was down with a longer stroke.Mankins often mentions a circular hand path.Mankin also calls one of his tapes the final arc. Which to me is the same arc Williams was talking about in his swing.Williams knew it was that arc that seperated him from Cobb power wise.I think you give the push swing or iside out swing to much credit for Ted Williams 344 life time batting avg . In 1947 Williams had to learn the inside out or push swing. So he could beat the shift that was put on him. But in 1942 5 yrs before the push swing. Williams hit 406 so he had a pretty good avg before learning the push swing. Williams said you can learn the inside out swing by playing pepper.I know this swing This is a swing used by many who wonder why they dont have much power. To do the inside out swing while playing pepper you start out rotating the bat as the ball gets close, you stop rotating your shoulders, and push your elbows, and hands out into extension to meet the ball. its diconnecting your hands, and the bat from your rotating shoulders and body . Remember with pepper you dont want to hit the ball hard because the other players are so close. The push swing keeps the bat on line with the ball a little longer but inhibits power.SO its like mankin said triple crown threats us a circular hand path or like Williams called in his book a greater arc in his swing.
