Ed,

Great minds think alike! I improvised just such a version with PVC pipe in my basement about a year ago. As indicated, I believe it can teach kids not to drop the bathead and that this can be accomplished without the severe donward angle. We do most of our swinging with a flat or very slight uppercut angle.
