Jack, thanks for the response. My sons left (lead) elbow is probably a little too vertical. (some of this may depend on hand size etc..but in his case I think it is caused by aligning of the door knocking knuckles; again when I grab a bat and align my door knuckles both elbows tend to go down;try it for yourself and I think you will see what I am talking about; it takes a fair amount of effort to have a flatter lead elbow and maintain door knuckle alignment)

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Thanks for the tip.
