Re: slow pitch softball swing

Let me start off by saying that I have visited your site before and have found the info to be a great benefit to my game.I'm having a problem transfering my baseball swing to my slow pitch softball game.I'm 6'1" 175lbs and left handed. I typically hit for more power lower in the strike zone. Because of the angle of the ball entering the zone in slow pitch I have to swing at a slighly higher level to make the type of contact that I desire. I have been working with the rotational theory and incorporating my hips/body into the swing. Any thoughts as to how I can produce more power at a higher swing plane?

Shem,

I am the same type of hitter. Having been more accustomed to baseball, I have always hit low pitches with a lot of authority. However, in slow pitch softball a power hitter will tend to impart top spin on the low pitches. That's great for line drives up the gap....but you have to take advantage of every high pitch in the strike zone (to get backspin on the ball) if you're going to challenge the fence. It seems easier to me (and we're all different, I know) to accomplish this with rotational mechanics.
