Ted Williams said he would have been a better hitter had he been a natural left handed hitter. His theory is that you bat harder with your natural hand. Chipper Jones proved the theory hitting about the same amount homeruns from the right side with fewer at bats from the right side. Ted Williams said that switch hitters should be naturally ambidexterous, posessing the ability to do everything with both hand.

I believe that 14 is a little bit old to start experimenting, because junior varsity and varsity coaches have little patience for switch hitters that hit well on one side of the plate and whiff too many times on the other.
